Since its establishment 10 years ago, GO-Science has forged collaborative partnerships with East Carolina University, Vidant Health Systems, Pitt Community College, NC East, and regional schools systems to provide programs such as science camps, science cafes, science fairs, a STEM collaborative, and e-mentoring.

The Redevelopment Commission of Greenville’s recognition of these successful efforts led them to acquire property for the construction of a Regional Science Center. This exciting state-of-the-art facility will house the more than 20 core programs that are currently being offered. These programs are designed to provide cutting edge, informational and educational activities for children, teachers, and citizens alike. This exciting state-of-the-art facility will house these programs in addition to the more than 2 million dollars worth of exhibits that are currently in storage. 

North Carolina academic performance, as well as statistics in science and math, indicates a critical need for intervention. Only one in three are proficient in math; one in five are proficient in science.  More than 62% of currently available jobs require Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills. Only 21% of students graduate with the necessary skills to perform STEM jobs.

This important data led community leaders to establish GO-Science, a first-class innovative learning experience that will equip our young people with the skills necessary to fulfill the growing needs of a 21^st Century workforce.

GO-Science has already begun changing the landscape of education. Created for the purpose of educational and workforce enhancement, as well as economic development, the goal of GO-Science is to inspire, motivate and educate students through dynamic programs and exciting activities that reinforce STEM learning.

By ensuring a workforce knowledgeable in science and math, we can maintain and attract the fast-growing biomedical, scientific and mathematically based industries. This will lead to enhanced business recruitment and the creation of jobs necessary for a thriving community.

The GO-Science Center in Greenville, N.C. will be a new kind of classroom with hands-on learning for children and adults of all ages. This high-tech facility for learning about science and related fields will allow visitors to conduct scientific experiments, utilize problem-solving skills, and engage in technology. Students’ natural enthusiasm for discovery will be encouraged, while they also develop critical communication, decision-making, team-building, and collaborative skills.
